Option Selection

Aspire provides several different mechanisms for selecting from a list of valid options when filling in fields on a form. The mechanism depends on the number of options available and the number of options that may be selected. Aspire provides drop-downs, combo boxes, and multi-select boxes for selecting options, as described below.

Drop-Down

Aspire provides drop-downs for selecting from relatively few options.  An example of a drop-down for the Salutation field is shown. When you click on the drop-down, a list of valid options displays from which you can select by clicking on an option or using arrow keys to select an option and pressing the Enter key.

Combo Box

Aspire provides combo boxes for selecting from a list of many items. An example of a combo box for selecting a company is shown.  In this case, many companies are available in the system from which to choose. Typing part of the text representing any available value in the list interactively narrows down the available items that are displayed, allowing you to find the desired item.  When you see the item you wish to select, you can click it or use the arrow keys to select it and press the Enter key.

Aspire provides multi-select boxes for choosing one or more items from a list. An example of a multi-select box for choosing one or more Contact Types is shown. Clicking in the multi-select box displays a list of options. Clicking an option adds it to the select items. In the example, Customer and Prospect have already been selected. Clicking on Vendor would also add it to the selected values.

In some cases, when the possible selections are very numerous (i.e., selecting a contact), typing part of the text representing any available value in the list interactively narrows down the available items that are displayed, allowing you to find the desired item. When you see the item you wish to select, you can click it or use the arrow keys to select it and press the Enter key.
